CMPI was informed that we were selected as a recipient of the first round of 2024 funding from the Metlife Foundation’s Community Impact Grant Program this past summer. Our team is honored to be one of many national organizations to have been awarded this funding. The Metlife Foundation grant is providing the Community Impact Grant Program to support local grassroots organizations such as CMPI in addressing the emergency needs of the Maya community in Omaha, Nebraska, which is impacted by the expanding income and wealth divide.
The Metlife Foundation grant supports four focus areas and selected recipients will receive programmatic support through grants in the following focus areas:
This grant funding has provided access to critical needs and services, such as transportation, language access, food access, and housing and relocation support for the Maya community in Nebraska. Jenny E. Fimbres-Gonzalez, CMPI staff member and Manager of Community Support & Social Services, recounts a recent encounter with a community member, “…if it weren’t for the CMPI team and our behind the scenes funders [like Metlife Foundation], this work would not be possible. We are changing people's lives daily.” CMPI appreciates The Metlife Foundation grant for their kindness, support, and we are so grateful for contribution and for being a part of our efforts to center indigenous and marginalized people who are able to access support for critical needs and services. The generosity of the Metlife Foundation grant inspires us every day to continue to do collective work for our communities – thank you!
